When booting up Windows
NT4/2000, you are faced with a nice green blue screen. Eventually the,
"Log On To Windows" dialog box appears. This green blue screen colour may be
changed to suit your ethstetic needs. A home user or a company may have
the need to brand the background screen.
Changing the Logon Background
Colour:
Open Regedit And Go To:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Colors
In the right hand workspace look for the Name: Background
Change the three numbers from the default of 58 110 165 to the RGB values you want.
For example 110 110 255 is a fairly light blue, 0 0 0 would be black,
255 0 0 would be red.
Log off and log back on again to see the change.
With a simple registry change, you can add/change the default bitmap that displays
below the logon prompt in Windows NT 4/2000 . You will need to have the bitmap you want to use in the Winnt directory, with an 8.3
naming convention file name.
Open Regedit And Go To:
HKEY_USERS\Default\Control Panel\Desktop
In the right hand workspace look for the Name:
Wallpaper
Double click Wallpaper and type the full location of the intended
bitmap file you have created and stored.
Note:
When designing the background bitmap, I created a large black area above
the BeemerWorldgraphic. Just like it looks in the image below minus the
logon panel. This forced the logo to show below the logon panel in my
boot process. (It took 2 tries to design it nice and centred, up and
down)
E.G.: C:\WINNT\your file.bmp
Here are some other values you will find in this Key:
| Name |
Data Type |
Value |
| TileWallpaper |
REG_SZ |
0 for tiling, 1 for no tiling |
| WallpaperStyle |
REG_SZ |
0 for normal, 2 for
full-screen |
This is what I came up with:
(Of course, I changed the background colour and it is full screen)
