hide your files and folders

For what ever reason you might have, here below is the secret to
hiding your files or folders from prying eyes.

If you haven't read the tutorial on "Create A Folder1,2, and 3" yet and have a problem with working with-in your Explore, then do so now before you waste time on this tutorial.

To start with, here is a configuration that you have to setup.

Folder Options:

1. Left click on "Start"
2. Hover on Settings and left click on "Folder Options"
2a. You can access Folder Options from within Windows Explorer as well. Go to the text toolbar at the top and click on View and Options
3. Left click on the "View" tab
4. Under the sub-heading of Hidden files, place a dot in "Do not show hidden or system files" (while you are here you might as well make sure the dot is in "Hide file extensions for know file types". (This has nothing to do with what we are doing here but this allows you to change file names without rendering the file useless)

To Hide A File or Folder:

1. First you have to have a folder or file that you want to hide.
2. Find that folder or file and right click on it and left click on Properties.
3. On the General Tab you have a selection of boxes to put checkmarks into and the one that hides your folder or file is quite evident I would say. It's the box that reads "Hidden".
4. Put a check mark in here and left click OK.
5. Exit Explore and return to Explore and check it out. It is gone!

To Find What You Have Hidden:

1. Left click on Start.
2. Hover on "Settings" and left click on "Folder Options".
3. Left click on the "View" tab.
4. Under the sub-heading of Hidden files, place a dot in "Show all files".
5. Go look for your file.
  • This works really well if you don't forget to re-hide your files when you are done. Try it a few times to get use to using the hide and show functions of Folder Options.

  • If you have some smart snoops, you might want to hide your files into sub-folders 1 or 2 deep. Name your folders something that won't draw attention to the contents of the folder.
